NEDC Reiterates Commitment To Support Education

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed G. Alkali, has reiterated the commitment of the commission to supporting the education sector. 

Alkali made this known on Thursday in Maiduguri while commissioning Future Prowess Human Capacity Building Center named after Late Abba Kyari, at Fori, Jere LGA. 

Future Prowess School is a private school set up by a philanthropist for orphans and other vulnerable children affected by the  insurgency in the North East.

Alkali, who lauded the founder of the school for complementing government efforts in empowering the vulnerables, said NEDC would continue to partner with the school in that direction.

He said that requests made by the school for more support by the commission would be looked into.

In his remarks, the founder of the school, Barrister Mustapha Bukar, said the school which has four branches with a total of 2,085 students mostly girls decided to introduce skills acquisition as part of its empowerment programme. 

Bukar, who lauded NEDC for its support to the school urged for sustenance, adding that the school had established a farm as a source of generating revenue to augment the running of the school. 

Some students of the school who spoke at the occasion also lauded the support by NEDC and urged it to consider supporting their feeding programme.

Highlight of the occasion is the interaction with some students of the school by Alkali who also inspected facilities at the skills acquisition centre where he was presented with a pair of shoes in appreciation of his support to the centre.
