Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has expressed satisfaction with the improvement of security in the state within the past three years of his administration.
Zulum made the observation in Maiduguri while hosting stakeholders comprising members of Borno Elders Forum and Security personnel during breaking of fast on Monday in Government House.
“We have to thank God for His infinite mercy, we are able to achieve a lot in Borno, especially in the area of security,” Zulum said.
Zulum explained that for that past three months he has not received emergency calls on insurgents threats around Maiduguri and environs, particularly along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Damaturu road.
He noted that the improved security within the past three years of his administration led to reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of many communities and reopening of some Federal roads like Bama – Banki road, Dikwa – Gamboru – Ngala road and Maiduguri – Monguno road with people now travelling without escort.
The governor also cited the mass surrender of insurgents and the expansion of farming and fishing activities up to shores of Lake as a result of the improved security.
In area of education, the governor said apart from building more new schools, his administration also rebuild about 2,500 classrooms out of the about 5,000 destroyed by the insurgents.
“We also enacted a law that allow streamlining of non formal (Tsangaya) and formal education,” Zulum said.
The governor pointed out that in area of health, his administration not only recruited more health workers but breached the gap in terms of salaries between federal and state medical doctors.
According to him, his administration also injected about N10 billion into the state economy by supporting the less privilege to engage in businesses.
He thanked security personnel and the people of Borno for thier support to his administration, adding that he would not derail in his commitment to Borno project in line with the state 25-year Development Plan.
In thier respective responses, the representative of Borno Elders Forum, Alhaji Gambo Gubio and that of security agencies, Navy Commodore BTF Yeldin, lauded the administration for it commitment to the development of the state and assured thier full support in that direction.
