The Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Prof. Aliyu Shugaba has tasked faculties and departments to prioritise conferences and seminars on challenging issues to boost its ranking.
Shugaba gave the charge at the 1st International Conference, organised by the Faculty of Management Sciences of the university, on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
According to Shugaba, such quality conferences, seminars and symposia remain significant and define a university as a community of intellectuals.
“I want to commend the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences and entire staff of the faculty for thier good work in organising the 1st international conference.
“I urged the faculty to sustain this laudable initiative by organising international conferences from time to time.
“I wish to appeal to other faculties in the university that are yet to organise any conference to do so, to improve the visibility and ranking of the university,” he said.
The VC reiterated commitment of the universty to its mandate as centre of learning, research, innovation and community service that prepare future professionals to tackle local, national and international challenges.
This, he said, necessitated such conferences and seminars.
Shugaba described the theme of the conference: “Revolusionising Management Skills For Economic Advancement and Capacity Building In A Challenging Environment” as apt and in tune with current realities in a rapidly changing world.
The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Dahiru said the conference was designed to strengthen management skills of many intellectuals in addressing current challenges.
Also, Gov. Babagana Zulum lauded the initiative, adding that it was timely in view of the realities in Borno where the government and people are struggling to recover from insurgency.
Represented by the Head of Service, Malam Fannami, the governor said the government adopted a development plan and introduced promotion examination for civil servants, to enhance effective service delivery by having the right people in the right place.
Highlight of the event include the presentation of a keynote speech titled: “Leadership in Challenging Environment under Rapidly Evolving Global Technology”.
The paper was presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Borno State University (BOSU), Prof. Umar Sandabe.
