Tribute: A Fifth (5th)-Year Ramadan Remembrance of Malam Jabbule

Late Malam Abubakar Bappa Waziri, simply known as “Malam Jabbule” who died five (5) years ago on 6th May, 2015, was a renowned Islamic scholar who had maintained a dominant voice particularly during Eid-El Kabir or Fitr (Sallah) and Jumma’at (Friday) congregational prayers through the delivery of soul-refreshing and spiritually-uplifting pre-khutbah (sermon) either at the eid ground of ”Izalatul Bidi’a Wa Ikamatus Sunnah” or that of the ”general” (main) one both in Jalingo and their respective Jumma’at mosques within the blessed period he gloriously lived.

In an unprecedented show of respect to his religious personality, large congregation of Muslims that attended his jana’izah (pre-burial prayer) refused any vehicle to carry his corpse on grounds that his corpse deserved a greater honour based on which, they carried the corpse on their shoulders interchangeably all the way to the main Jalingo cemetery located beside the Jalingo main eid ground.

He was a brilliant preacher/scholar who communicated effectively in multitude languages/dialects and a highly successful propagator of Islam who championed ”da’awah” (Islamic evangelism) across most of the towns, villages and hamlets of Muri or Northern and most parts of Central Taraba despite all the hazards and difficulties involved.

As we continue to include him in our prayers, especially in this holy month of Ramadan, we are also prayerful and hopeful that the favours and mercy of Allah remain with him in his grave, on the Day of Judgement and ultimately, in Aljannatul Firdaus, ameen!
