Dr. Usman Bugaje has called on Adamawa State government to exploit the cattle value chain in its totality as the state is losing hugely by transporting live cattle to southern parts of the country.
Bugaje who was the guess speaker at the pre-inauguration lecture of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s second term in office on Thursday noted that they are exporting Adamawa jobs and revenue to the southern parts of Nigeria.
He reiterated that the modern meat factory is based on zero wastage as all parts of the cattle are important to drive the economy and urged the government to prioritize the sector.
Dr Bugaje stressed that real and sustainable development cannot happen without a change of mindset and therefore called on Adamawa people to learn how to get things better.
He enumerated capacity deficit in government personnel, capital to drive investments, energy to fire the industries, security and political culture as factors that must be addressed to improve good governance.
Bugaje also called on the state government to harness its energy sector to generate electricity in order to grow industries for development of the state.
He noted that since energy is now in the concurrent list, Adamawa and other states in the northeast should organise themselves to provide the zone with electricity.
He further explained that in modern day economy, energy is the most indispensable factor which drive development adding that developed nations create wealth thorough production which he said invariably requires energy.
“With the lifting of some of the legal constraints, we should be able to navigate our energy path better and resolve the issues, even if gradually,” he said.
He urged government to prod the private sector to establish industries especially pharmaceutical industries, decrying that the northeast is the only zone in the country without a drug manufacturing firm.
