The new Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai North East, Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu has urged for renewed effort and commitment from troops to defeat the remnants of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Waidi made the call on Saturday in Maiduguri at the joint Theatre Command and 7 Division annual West African Social Activities, popularly known as WASA.
“The success we are celebrating today is a testimony to the commitment and dedication of troops..
“I assumed duty three weeks ago and I want to assure you that with your continuous support I will decimate the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno and other states of the North East.
“I therefore urged all troops to support their commanders, remain focused, dogged and prepared to decisively confront any security threat across the Theatre,” Waidi said.
He expressed gratitude to the President and Commander in Chief, Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff for their strategic guidance and induction of new equipment as well as welfare of personnel.
The commander also lauded the support for troops operations by governments of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
“Similarly, I would like to appreciate the Shehu of Borno for his leadership, his support to the military and other security agencies remain a great source of strength to the Theatre.”
In his remarks, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Brig. Gen. AGL Haruna, lauded the support to the military by stakeholders in the fight against the insurgency and urged for more collaboration.
In his remarks, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno lauded the military for their sacrifice in restoring peace and security in the northeast.
Zulum, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijjani, reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustain support to the military and other security agencies in the state.
He lauded the organizers of the annual event (WASA) which provided an opportunity for the Army to celebrate and forged unity among them and the civil populace, particularly host communities.
“May this event strengthen the bond of friendship, foster a spirit of comradeship and inspire us all to work together for the greater good of Nigeria,” Zulum said.
Highlight of the event is cultural dancing, feasting and presentation of souvenirs to dignitaries and organizations for their support and collaboration with the military.
