Sen Ndume: Borno Youths Berates Maina For Betrayal, urges him to show up

Youths in Borno South Senatorial District have berated Abdulrasheed Maina for jumping bail and urged him to immediately show up for the release of their representative, Sen. Ali Ndume.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had on Monday ordered the remand of Ndume in Kuje Correctional facility over his inability to produce the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, undergoing trial in the court.

A cross section of youth leaders from Borno South Senatorial District who spoke to newsmen said they were shocked with the conduct of Maina and want him to come out of hiding immediately.

Garga Kwajafa from Biu Local Government said the people of Hawul were disappointed with Maina for what he did to Ndume.

“Maina has not only betrayed Ndume but all of us from southern Borno and Borno in general.

“He has thrown us into mourning and need to come out without further delay.

“He needs to know that Ndume as a worthy representative stood for him because he is from our zone and what he did is certainly not the way to pay back,” Kwajafa said.

Also speaking, Mohammed Idrissa from Gwoza said they were disappointed with Maina who once called them to a political meeting to solicit support to contest for governorship, and wonder why someone who wanted to participate in politics would be betraying confidence.

“We are disappointed in Maina and urged the court to tamper justice with mercy by given Ndume more time as the authorities hunt for Maina,” Idrissa said.

Usman Aliyu from Askira/Uba Local Government, urged Ndume to regard what happened to him as an act of God and one of the sacrifices he had to make as a leader.

“I know Ndume is not close to Maina, but he took the risk to bail Maina because Maina is from his constituency. The least we expect from Maina is that he should be honourable enough to come out and face his trial instead of embarrassing our senator, ” Aliyu said.

Also speaking Mustafa Alhaji-Bukar from Damboa Local Government and Ibrahim Mohammed from Bayo Local Government urged Maina to realize that Ndume bailed him to save his life because he was sick at that time.

They noted that his action was a bad precedent that would scare people from standing for those in genuine need of bail in the future.

Ndume, the Senate Committee on Army is representing Southern Borno Senatorial District comprising Chibok, Damboa, Biu, Shani, Askira/Uba, Kwaya-kusar, Bayo, Hawul and Gwoza Local Government Areas.
