The organizing secretary of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu has called on the speaker of Adamawa State House of assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas to in the spirit of fair play declare the seat of the member representing Mubi North, Shuaibu Musa vacant for leaving APC.
Shuaibu Musa has on 14 June 2022 via a letter to the speaker announced leaving APC on whose crest he rode to become state lawmaker representing Mubi North constituency.
Ribadu in a statement made available to newsmen, Thursday, cautioned the speaker against double standards by refusing to declare the seat of the lawmaker vacant for the expediency of political correctness as such action can led to the despoliation of his personal and family reputation.
“I want to call on the speaker to in the spirit of decency, morality, fair play and justice declare the seat of Shuaibu Musa vacant for dumping APC on whose platform he became a lawmaker.
“Nigeria’s constitution stipulates that the seat of lawmaker belongs to a political party and since Shuaibu Musa has dumped our party, his seat should be declared vacant.
“By this we are not asking for too much considering that the house recently declared the seat of the member representing Michika constituency, Joseph Ayuba Kwada (Depolis) vacant for defecting from PDP to APC.
“We are watching with bated breath to see whether he will do justice or pander to the whims and caprices of his political interests and threw decency and morality to the dogs.
“But I want to assure him his ability to do justice to this matter will make or mar his political destiny. Therefore, it is left for him to do what he deemed right but should remember history is on the side of the oppressed,” he said.
