The former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Victor Ezeugwu, has absolved the military of human rights violations allegations contained in Reuters report.
Ezeugwu who testified before the 7- Member Panel investigating the allegations, said the allegations were unfounded.
According to Ezeugwu, if would be difficult for such violations to take place without the authorities knowing.
“Describing the abortions as secret and systematic is trying to justify that 10,000 abortions were done by the Army despite the fact that every Army commander has a way of making sure they check the activities of soldiers”, Ezeugwu said.
The former GOC said that the allegation were not based on facts, insisting that the report was not a true testimony of what Nigerian soldiers are doing in the North East.
