Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has commended Federal Government (FG) for the ongoing construction of 10,000 housing units for the resettlement of displaced persons affected by the insurgency.
Zulum made the commendation on Wednesday while inspecting work on some of the housing units in Dalori village of Konduga Local Government Area.
Zulum said all local governments affected by the insurgency in the state would benefit from the housing programme, adding that work in Dalori and Kaleri had reached 70 percent stage of completion.
“The President has graciously approved for the construction of 10,000 housing units, and fortunately enough, the president has also directed for release of funds to undertake the construction,” Zulum said.
He said that the first tranche of N3.5 billion released to the State Government by FG for the first phase of the project being handled by the State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement had been exhausted and that the state had written to FG for another tranche.
“In addition to the 10,000 housing units, the Federal Government has also released to Federal Ministry of Agriculture the sum of N1.3 billion for the establishment of Ruga Farm project in Borno.
“There is also N352 million through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for livelihood support to returning communities,” Zulum said.
The governor said that on it’s part, the state government would continue collaborate the efforts of the FG in ensuring that all displaced persons in camps were resettled back in their ancestral land on or before May 31, 2021.
