Borno Government has commenced distribution of Ramadan palliative to underprivileged families in the state.
Flagging-off the distribution for Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere Local Government Areas on Friday, the Acting Governor of the State, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, said 34,000 families would benefit from the two local governments.
Kadafur said the gesture which would be extended to all the 27 Local Government Aeas of the state.
Kadafur said the palliatives which include grains and other foods items were donated by Dangote Foundation, A.A Rano, Baba-For-All Initiative, Nigerian Customs Service and NNPC to support the state government which has been facing humanitarian crisis due to the insurgency.
Kadafur lauded the donors and urged other individuals and groups to emulate them in assisting the less privilege in the society.
While urging the committee handling the distribution exercise to ensure fairness, the Acting Governor implored beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by praying for last peace in the state.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee Alhaji Bukar Talba, and the Chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Alhaji Ali Bolori, also thanked the donors and assured proper distribution of the item to the identified beneficiaries.
