Prof Ahidjo Honoured As Hospital Administrator Of 2021

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo has been honoured as Hospital Administrator of the year.

Ahidjo was honoured along with 16 other prominent personalities who distinguished themselves in service to the nation and humanity at the 6th Awards and Recognition ceremony organised by North East Star at the conference hall of America University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola on Thursday.

In his citation at the ceremony, Ahijo was described as a hard working and commitment administrator who travelled to over 40 countries in search of knowledge and decimation of knowledge.

“He worked for over 27 years at the UMTH and has working experience of outside Nigeria as Radiologist in World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva, and as a Research Scholar at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

“Prof. Ahidjo has also sought out different ways to develop himself as well as impact society positively as a result, he has attended many conferences and workshops, gave lectures in theses places and has presented scientific papers within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

“Prof Ahidjo has trained over 20 consultants, a number of Msc and Ph.D candidates in addition to numerous undergraduates in the medical science.

“Being the great personality that he is, Prof. Ahidjo has held many positions and received many prizes and awards within and outside Nigeria.

“He is a member of many professional bodies and registered member of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

“His creativity spurred him to explore various opportunities at the national and international levels for upgrading infrastructure and enhancing services at his place of work.

“Consequently, with the support of the President, the Minister for Health, Borno State Government and other key partners, Prof. Ahidjo initiated many landmark projects and activities to realize his vision and mission. While some of them have already been completed and commissioned, many others are still on-going,” the citation noted.

Some of the completed projects cited include Trauma Centre, Burn Centre, Molecular Centre, Multi purpose Auditorium and Conference Centre.

The projects were said to have gone a long way in repositioning UMTH to be more effective in coping with the growing challenges in providing tertiary healthcare services to patients in the frontline states of North East and beyond.

The theme of the event that attracted personalities across the country is: “Celebrating Excellence, Promoting Peace and Harmony”.
