The wife of Inspector-General of Police who is also the National President of Police Officers Wives Association of Nigeria (POWA), Hajiya Hajara Alkali, on Saturday led wives of policemen in keep fit exercise and sanitation in Maiduguri police barracks.
The development is part of activities to round up the POWA president three-day visit to Borno State.
A statement by the Borno Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Edet Okon, said Alkali with other women started with other POWA executives started thier Saturday activities with physical exercise before proceeding to engage in sanitation exercise.
“The POWA President, her entourage and all POWA and PWA members started off with physical exercises at the Police College Maiduguri as early as 7.00AM.
“She later embarked on barrack inspection and subsequently led the Police Wives and Children in Barrack Cleaning fatigue.
“After the fatigue, Hajiya Hajara Baba took to the dancing floor where she was joined by top POWA executives, other Police wives, children and even special constable trainees.
“She again showed her benevolent side by presenting gifts, ranging from Deep Freezers to Matrasses and food items to women who distinguished themselves on the dancing floor,” Okon said.
He explained that some of her activities in Borno during the three-day visit included visits to Police Children School, Shehu of Borno, Borno First Lady, and empowerment programme for Widows of Police and other less privileged in the society were over 500 women benefited.
The POWA President was accompanied on the visit to Borno by wives of three (3) Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, wife of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, a female Commissioner of Police, POWA Secretary and the POWA PRO.
