Post Insurgency: Borno Govt Sets Up Skills Acquisition Centres In Liberated LGAs

….. Urges Proper Use of Tools as Skills Acquisition Program Expands

The Borno State Government has set up skills acquisition centres in all the liberated Local Government Areas of the state as part of its efforts to rebuild communities and empower residents.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, made this known on Thursday at an occasion in MOCOLIS where he urged the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other international donors to support the initiative.

Tar explained that the state will continue its collaboration with the UNDP and other NGOs to provide skills training for volunteer security personnel and unemployed youth across the state.

However, he stressed that the government will decide which trades will be taught to ensure the programs align with local needs.

He also recommended that the duration of the training programmes be extended to allow participants to gain a deeper understanding of their chosen trades, adding that the state government is encouraging trainees to form cooperative societies, which will enable them to access small and medium-scale entrepreneurship loans through the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment.

The Commissioner advised participants to make full use of the knowledge and tools provided, warning them not to sell or misuse the start-up equipment they receive.

While reiterating the Governor Babagana Zulum administration’s commitment to empower the people of the state, particularly youths and vulnerable groups, Tar assured the public that the government will regularly monitor the progress of the trainees to ensure their long-term success.
