Police Arrests 30 People As #RevolutionNow Protest Hits Lagos

….As Policemen Break Punch Journalist’s Head At Protest

As Nigeria celebrates 60 years of Independence, hundreds of protesters on Thursday stormed the streets of Lagos to express their grievance against bad governance in the country.

The protesters marched from the streets of Ojota to Maryland in Lagos.

They were seen chanting songs of solidarity.

The PUNCH gathered that no fewer than 30 protesters have been arrested by security operatives.

In a related development, a  photojournalist working with Punch, Olukayode Jaiyeola, has been reportedly brutalized by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to Punch, Jaiyeola was attacked by heavily armed policemen while covering an October 1 protest in Lagos State.

The protesters, numbering over 200, lamented that 60 years after the country gained independence from Britain and over 20 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, Nigeria’s socio-economic development has been mired by bad leadership which has denied the masses from enjoying the gains of a sovereign state.
