The maiden Inter-Secondary Schools quiz competition for public secondary schools in North East, has ended in Maiduguri with Fika Government Secondary School of Yobe State emerging winner.
Speaking at the grand finale in Maiduguri on Thursday, the Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, North East, Maj. Gen. G.O Chibuisi, said the competition was part of measures to strengthen Civil / Military relation in the zone.
Chibuisi who was represented by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. O.M Bello, noted the destruction caused by insurgents in the region with their ideology that was against western education.
He reiterated the commitment of the military to contain insurgency and restore normalcy in the region, adding that only recently, the Chief of Defence Staff had donated educational materials to schools in the region to facilitate education.
“Today, we are here to witness one of the non-kinetic Community
impacting endeavor instituted by the leadership of the Operation Hadin Kai.
“This event is the brain child of the Theater Commander to encourage our young ones to take academic activities seriously and to understand that their future is assured with education..”
In his remarks, the Borno Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Lawan Wakilbe, lauded the military for its active involvement in various sectors including education.
Wakilbe who was represented by the Director, Administration in the ministry, Alhaji Ali Musa, urged other institutions to emulate the military in promoting quality education in the region.
The participants in the competition competed in Maths, English and General Studies with Fika Government Secondary School of Yobe winning the gold metal.
Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School of Borno won the silver medal, while the bronze medal went to Government Secondary School, Garkida of Adamawa.
Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of cash rewards and educational materials to participants and schools that participated in the grand finale.
