The Force Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Sallau Ali, said over 140 terrorists have been neutralized with 57 others arrested in the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity 2.
Ali made this known on Tuesday in Maiduguri while briefing newsmen on the ongoing operation by the task force.
Ali said that 176 others surrendered with cache of arms recovered in the ongoing operation.
“In the past month, our dedicated troops have been relentless in their efforts, recently clearing some locations such as Doron Naira, Zanari, Bagadaza, and other key terrorist strongholds in Lake Chad area.
“It is essential to acknowledge the sacrifices made during this phase; regrettably, we have recorded 6 casualties among the multinational troops since the operation began. Therefore, let me use this forum to further extend our deepest condolences and prayers for their eternal rest. Their bravery and sacrifice shall not be forgotten. We also pray for the quick recovery of the injured.
“Despite the initial challenges, Operation LAKE SANITY 2 has achieved substantial successes. We have recorded the surrender of 176 terrorists and the arrest of 57 individuals involved in terrorist activities. During these operations, we recovered a notable cache of armaments, including 796 x rounds of ammunition, one x PKM machine gun, 5 x AK-47 rifles, 2 x motorcycles, and 8 x magazines, alongside various other arms, ammunition and logistics support items.
“Additionally, Operation LAKE SANITY 2 air interdictions have been highly effective. These aerial operations conducted by national Airforces from Chad, Nigeria and Cameroon have led to the destruction of crucial terrorist logistic bases and staging areas, particularly around Tumbum Fulani and other key locations.
“Over 140 terrorists were neutralized during these air strikes, and a significant amount of terrorist platforms and materiel were destroyed, severely crippling their operational capabilities,” Ali said.
The Force Commander said the success of operation was a testament to the dedication and commitment of the troops, adding that the advancements made were critical steps towards restoring peace and stability in the region.
“We deeply appreciate the Chiefs of Defence Staff from all the troops contributing countries. We assure them that the MNJTF remains committed to its mandate of creating a safe and secure environment in the Lake Chad areas affected by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.”
He also acknowledge the support provided by national operations such as Operation EMERGENCE 4 in Cameroon, Operation HADIN KAI in Nigeria, Chadian national operations and Sector 4 in Diffa, Niger Republic.
According to him, the operations have been instrumental as a blocking force for operation Lake Sanity 2.
While thanking the media for it sustain support, the force commander reiterated the commitment of the task force in keeping the media abreast on further developments.
