NYSC Conducts Free Medical Services In Borno

 

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced free medical services to less- privileged people in Borno.

The outreach is part of the scheme’s 2022 first quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme, meant to provide free medical services to rural communities.

Mr Nura Umar,State Coordinator of NYSC, speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Sulumri community of Maiduguri, said the gesture was part of the scheme’s commitment to sustaining support to healthcare delivery system in the rural communities.

Umar said the medical team of corps members, comprising doctors, nurses and laboratory scientists among others, had been mobilised to ensure  the success of the programme, which included sensitising the community on hygiene.

He explained that the team would attend to patients, particularly women and children suffering from various ailments, adding that complicated cases would be referred to tertiary health centres for better management.

He urged beneficiaries to be orderly for a hitch- free exercise.

In his remarks, the leader of Sulumri community, Malam Mustapha Bukar, lauded the initiative,describing it  as a big relief to the people.

Bukar said that NYSC had been a reliable and dependable scheme in promoting national unity and selfless service to humanity,calling for the sustenance of the scheme.
