The National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS) has been resuscitated with a Five-Member Interim Caretaker Committee that have Comrade Abdullahi Alhaji Maidoki as Chairman and Comrade Ibrahim Kaka Sheriff as Secretary.
Speaking to newsmen on the development on Friday in Maiduguri, Maidoki said the national body which had been comatose for several years due to internal crisis is back to protect the interest of Borno students.
Maidoki who lauded the role of the Commissisioner of Higher Education, Science Technology and Innovation, Engr. Mustafa Mallumbe and the Executive Secretary of Borno State Scholarship Board, Mallam Bala Isa for thier support in resuscitating the union, assured the interim committee’s commitment to usher in a stronger NUBOSS through credible election in few months time.
Maidoki lauded Borno Government under Governor Babagana Zulum administration for its effort in transforming education in the state, adding that apart from structures and other materials provided by the administration, the Governor established the state education trust fund and increased scholarship allowance for local and foreign students.
Reacting to the development in NUBOSS, the Executive Secretary of Borno Scholarship Board, Mallam Bala Isa, lauded the students for the progress made in resuscitating the union and declared the board’s readiness to work with the union leader in the interest of students.
Isa said that Gov. Zulum has approved the released of N476 million for payment of scholarship to students of Borno in tertiary institutions in Nigeria and abroad, and that the exercise has commenced in earnest.
“We have paid students in Colleges of education and Polytechnics and are now paying students in universities,’ Isa said.
He explained that there are some hitches being experienced involving students, institutions and the board, but efforts are being made to address the challenges.
