The North East Youths and Elders People’s Forum (NEYEPF) has applauded the giant strides been recorded in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the North East region by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Disclosing the Forum’s position in a press release signed and made available to newsmen in Yola Tuesday, national President of the Forum, Salihu Magaji, stated that the commission under the Leadership of the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer (MD/CEO), Mohammed Goni Alkali is changing the narratives for better.
According to the release, the NEDC has awarded construction of 2,500 destroyed buildings in the region where already 1000 buildings have been completed in Borno state as 500 construction of houses are ongoing in Yobe and Bauchi States respectively.
It stated that a Burnt Centre at Federal Medical Centre Yola and a fully equipped Molecular Laboratory at Yola Specialist Hospital have been completed and will be commissioned soon in Adamawa state .
“We in the North East subregion are satisfied and grateful for the efforts of North East Development Commission headed by their amiable Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali.
“Since its establishment, the commission has awarded construction of 2,500 as part of its efforts to bring succour to the displaced people in North East.
“The foundation laying ceremony for the construction of 500 mass housing units in Adamawa state today apart from flagging off of distribution of food and non-food items to address rapid deteriorating food insecurity situation in the zone.
“In area of ICT training in the region, NEDC trained 2,400 youths in two batches across the 6 states and donated equipped infectious Diseases Laboratory for testing COVID-19 and other diseases as commissioned in Yobe, Bauchi and Taraba states while in Adamawa and Gombe States will be done soon,” the statement added.
