North East States To Benefit From IFAD Support On Value Chain

 

Farmers from North East states affected by insurgency are to benefit from the new support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on value chain.

The Director, Project Coordinating Unit of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Bukar Musa, made this known on Thursday at the official launching of the Value Chain North East Project Design Mission in Maiduguri.

Musa said that the project which is now in the pipeline was to empower rural farmers, particularly the most vulnerable ones.

Musa said that the ministry in collaboration with IFAD are now reaching out to stakeholders across all cadres for their contribution for the final design of the project.

“We are here for the design and want to get inputs of stakeholders to have their buy in to design the project.

“It is a pipeline project now, we are here for consultation to get stakeholders contributions on how they want it to be so that consultants can sit down and harmonise for all the states and come up with the final project design, ” Musa said.

Also speaking on the new project, the representative of Borno who is the Acting Programme Manager of Borno State Agricultural Development Programme, Darman Mohammed, said the project when implemented would add value to agriculture in the state.

Mohammed said that IFAD had executed project in some states in the past and would used the new project to enhanced its past record, particularly in area of value chain.

He urged stakeholders, particularly farmers take full advantage of the project by making the needed contributions on its design.
