Dr Yakub El-Yakub has emerged the newly elected Chairman of the Borno chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
El-Yakub scored 299 votes to defeat Dr Hassan Dogo who got 156 votes at the just concluded 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association.
Other officials that emerged winners include Dr Abba Fugu as Vice Chairman, Dr Kaka Sanda as Secretary, and Dr Mustafa Ibrahim as Assistant Secretary.
The remaining are Dr Musa Isa as Social and Welfare, Dr Sulaiman Farussi as PRO, Dr Mohammed Goni as Financial Secretary, and Dr Abubakar Askira as Treasurer.
The new chairman, El-Yakub, is a Clinical Microbiologist and Pathologist with over 11 years of experience in public health microbiology and outbreak response.
He had conducted laboratory analysis of 59 clinical specimens for timely results, participated in clinical research projects for medical knowledge and practice, verified 71% of laboratory results, maintaining high standards of precision.
He also trained over 44 medical students, enhancing their clinical skills and knowledge as well as managed 65 critically ill patients, contributing to improved patient outcomes.
El-Yakub is a member of many medical associations and winner of several awards including Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee of UMTH, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease of Nigeria, Doctors Time-out Family (DTOF),College of Nigeria Pathologist, Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria.
