The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented learning and other materials to nine schools in support of Girl-Child education and orphans affected by insurgency in Maiduguri, Kano and Sokoto.
Presenting the materials comprising exercise books, school bags, mats, blankets and clothing materials to benefitting schools in Maiduguri on Saturday, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, said the measure was in line with the mandate of the commission.
Alkali, who was represented by the Borno Co-ordinator of NEDC, Mohammed Umaru, said the commission remained committed to the welfare of the orphans and other vulnerable groups.
He said that the commission had many plans for the welfare of vulnerable groups affected by insurgency.
Responding on behalf of the schools, the Head of Future Prowess School, Zannah Mustapha, commended the commission for the support, pointing out that it was the ninth time such intervention came from the commission.
Mustapha assured that the support would be judiciously utilised for the benefit of those it was intended for.
The benefitting schools/centres are Lafiya Sarari Learning Centre, Maiduguri Special School, Girl Child Concern, El-Kanemi Orphanage School, NECT/TLC Maiduguri, Future Prowess, Yatim Care Foundation, Kano Orphanage School and Sokoto Orphanage School.
