NEDC Distributes Food, Non Food Items To Clubs, Associations In Borno

 

 

 

The Borno State Coordinator of NEDC addressing beneficiaries at the presentation ceremony in Maiduguri on TuesdayThe North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food and other items to 106 Clubs and Associations including vulnerable groups comprising orphans, widows and persons with disability. 

Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday in Maiduguri, Mr Mohammed Alkali, the Managing-Director, NEDC, said that the gesture was to cushion effects of the hardship in the country on the people.

Alkali, represented by the Borno Coordinator, NEDC, Mohammed Umar, said that the target was to reach out to vulnerable groups including orphans, widows, Persons with Disabilities and students of tertiary institutions through their unions.

He said that the gesture was in line with the commission’s mandate to ameliorate the hardship caused the by the insurgency in the society.

He said that about 567 vulnerable households had benefited from the latest support of the commission to the people.

Alkali urged the people of north east to always avail themselves to opportunities provided by the commission in its interventions at various sectors.

In his remarks, the Borno Chairman of Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities, Malam Mohammed Abubakar, lauded the commission for the support which he said was timely.

“This support coming at this critical time of inflation coupled with the Ramadan period is timely.

“We remain grateful to NEDC for the sustained support of vulnerable groups and urged other organizations to emulate it in complementing government interventions at this critical moment,” Abubakar said.
