The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed energy efficient stoves to 300 rural women in north east.
In his message at the distribution exercise in Maiduguri on Friday were 50 women from Borno were presented with the stoves, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mr Mohammed Alkali said 50 women were selected each state in north east.
Alkali said that all the women were trained in a two-day workshop on climate change and how to use the energy efficient stove for maximum result.
He urged beneficiaries to stepdown the training on climate and measures to mitigate it given to them at the training.
While reiterating the commitment of NEDC to ameliorating the hardship being faced by people of north east occasioned by the 13 years of insurgency, Alkali urged for more support from the public and other stakeholders to succeed.
Also speaking, a director with Lake Chad Research Institute, Maiduguri, Hajiya Fatima Mustafa who trained the beneficiaries on using the stoves, said the women were sensitized on climate change and use of energy efficient stoves.
Mustafa urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by making maximum use of the opportunity provided them by encouraging others to join the crusade on climate change.
Mustafa said that the fuel-efficient stove distributed to the women has 43 per cent thermal efficiency.
Highlight of the occassion is the presentation of certificate and stoves to the women.
