NEDC commissions Kudzum bridge, others damaged by B’Haram in Adamawa

As part of its mandate of rebuilding and rehabilitation of destroyed infrastructures by Boko Haram insurgency, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has reconstructed and commissioned the Kudzum bridge in Michika local government Area of Adamawa state.

Kuldzum bridge which links Borno and Adamawa states was destroyed by the Nigerian Army troops in 2014 to frustrate the effort of the insurgents from gaining access to towns and villages in Northern Adamawa.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony weekend, Managing Director of the Commission Mohammad Goni Alkali said the Kudzum bridge is among the three bridges destroyed in the state as the remaining are still under reconstruction.

Alkali stated that the commission is handling the works in collaboration with Federal Ministry of works and Housing (FMWH) noting that the scope of work on the Kuldzum bridge covers 500.0m with 250.0m on each approach.

Alkali added that the remaining two bridges of Dilechim and Wuro-Ngayandi towns are ongoing and have reached 70 % completion.

“Today, we are witnessing the historic inauguration of Kuldzum bridge, one of the three major bridges destroyed by Boko Haram insurgency in 2014.

“NEDC in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (FMWH) reconstructed the three bridges at Kuldzum, Dilechim and Wuro-Ngayandi damaged by the insurgency along the Mubi to Bama/Maiduguri road,” Alkali said.

In his response at the occasion, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri expressed satisfaction with the development assuring the commission of his administration’s support and cooperation at needed times.

In a related development,the Commission has laid the foundation of construction of 500 housing units in Adamawa state with 250 units to be situated at Duware suburb in Yola South metropolitan local government area while 250 units will be spread across the local government councils.

Managing Director of the commission,Goni Alkali said his commission has built a first class Burnt centre at Federal Medical Centre Yola to address incidences of burn injuries and related cases with another donation of equipped infectious Disease laboratory for testing COVID 19 and other illnesses at Yola specialist hospital.

Alkali further stated that 18 destroyed schools with three from each senatorial districts would be renovated soon.
