In an effort to improve the efficiency of its examination to surpass global standards, the National Examination Council (NECO) has procured 8000 biometric devices.
Registrar and chief Executive Officer of the council, professor Ibrahim Wushishi disclosed the development while answering questions from journalists in Yola Yesterday stressing that all hands are on deck to ensure examination undertaken by the council are credible and reliable.
“We have 18000 centres across the Country and we intend each centre to have its biometric equipment that can capture data digitally as so far we have procured 8000 biometric devices to enhance our work.
“Our hope and prayer is that our examinations should surpass the global standards so that other examination outfits can be coming to us and asking on the innovative strategies we are using in making our exams credible”.Wushishi stated.
Professor Wushishi who was in Adamawa state as part of his management team tour to monitor the ongoing NECO examination in the country announced that a total of one Million and three hundred thousand (1.3M) students are writing the NECO examination for year 2021in the country .
“With our record so far a total of 1.3 million students have registered and are writing NECO examination for this year (2021) as against the 1.2 million recorded last year (2020).
“We are working assiduously to improve on the already highly secured and customised examination certificates being issued to our students with additional improved security features in meeting the global standards.
“In fact ,we want passport photographs (pictures) of students to be appearing on theirs statement of results henceforth”.Wushishi advanced.
He also reiterated the commitment of his council in introducing computer based Test (CBT) methodology where all examinations would be digitalised noting that already their Objective examination questions are being done with the CBT approach.
The Registrar in company of his management team and the media monitored students while writing the NECO examination in Federal Government Girls College Yola and Aliyu Mustapha College Yola respectively.
Welcoming the team to her school,the principal of FGGC Yola,Mrs Charity Wakawa expressed satisfaction with the examination modalities put in place by the council.
Mrs Wakawa told the August visitors that a total of 165 students in her school are partaking in the ongoing Examination acknowledging that the efficacy and efficiency of the council’s output is not in doubt measured to other examination bodies.
