An airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has resulted in the killing of several Boko Haram leaders in the Sambisa area of Borno State.

The terrorists were killed at Alafa Yagayaga in the Sambisa Forest in Borno State in the operation conducted on Saturday, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information disclosed in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

He disclosed that fighter jets dispatched by the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE bombed a location the leaders had assembled.

He said following credible intelligence reports indicating that the BHT leaders had converged at the target compound for a meeting over the weekend”.

“Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, which confirmed the meeting venue, also observed several BHTs in and around other buildings in the vicinity of the compound.”

The statement added that bombs from the detailed attack aircraft hit the target leading to the obliteration of the compound, surrounding structures and Boko Haram members.

Daramola assured of sustained air campaign in the North East for the effective conduct of further ground and air operations.

There have been increased Boko Haram and ISWAP activities in recent weeks.

The insurgents sometimes block roads to launch attacks or invade soft targets to steal food items. Villagers are murders in some instances.
