Many primary school teachers in Borno State are in a festive mood after receiving the new minimum wage salary alert.
The alert started on Thursday, one week after state workers experienced theirs following a directive for the implementation by Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum.
Some of the excited teachers have resorted to posting screenshots of their salary alerts to counter claims that the implementation story was not true.
A statement from the Government House Press Unit which announced the payment, said Zulum gave the approval of a pay rise for workers in the state on October 10 in a meeting with the minimum wage implementation committee members.
The statement said that during the meeting, the governor also approved N3 billion for the payment of entitlements to families of late civil servants.
The statement further quoted the Borno Chairman of NLC, Comrade Inuwa Yusuf describing the state minimum wage package as the best so far in the northeast region.
“Let me also join in commending the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for serving our people, especially the workers.
“After a series of meetings, we harmonised the wage table which was applied in the last couple of days.
“Our members (civil servants) have called in and expressed their gratitude. We felt it was a very nice one, and we believe other states in the northeast can not be better than us; we have seen what a few other States have paid, and we don’t know of other states that will pay later as at now, our state is leading. We have to commend His Excellency for this giant stride,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.
