Barring any last minute change in permutations, the member representing Uba/Gaya state constituency, Aminu Iya Abbas (PDP) may become the new speaker of Adamawa State house of assembly today.
Sources confided in our reporter that the decision of the immediate ex-speaker of the house of assembly, Kabir Mijinyawa representing Yola South State constituency (APC) has gone a long way to pave way for the expected victory of Abbas who is the PDP’s preferred candidate.
Initially there were fears that the All Progressives Congress may stealthily pick the speakership of the house when four members of the PDP expressed ambition for the coveted seat.
Their ambition allegedly caused massive tension within the PDP less than 48 hours before the contest, but the party was said to have waded and urged other candidates to support Abbas for the party to emerge victorious.
Another issue that made the candidature of Abbas to have a significant mileage was the fact that he was a ranking member unlike his major contender and member representing Yola north, Hamidu Sajo Lekki who was a first termer to the house.
