Concerned northern marketers under the aegis of the association of young northern marketers have called on president Muhammadu Buhari not to renew the term of office of customs boss colonel Hameed Ali over poor performance, corruption, highhandedness and impunity. In a statement made available to The Newshawk, spokesman of the group Muhammad Bala Hotoro said the clarion call became imperative in order to save ordinary Nigerians of northern extraction from being wholly liquidated. The group noted that during the first tenure of Ali marketers faced a number of mishaps and tribulations which made the business clime very inclement and send many marketers into artificial bankruptcy. They accused Ali of running the customs with scant regard for the rule of law as if he was a military dictator noting that he ran the customs service with iron fists a situation which is antithetical to democratic values.”Hameed Ali is wrecking the Nigeria Customs and the nation’s economy. There are surfeit of consignments his men captured at the Nigerian port.” However, he has never ordered for auctioning and now the goods are being damaged and expiring leading to the loss of millions of naira.”Despite that Ali has found it right to auction sixteen expensive cars, jeep brand to himself at a paltry sixteen million only.” He is making these brisk businesses through a front named Saleh Ahmed living in Kaduna,” he said.He noted that most of the transactions that favoured the customs boss are carried out without recourse to due process which is the hallmark and principle behind the Buhari persona. The group noted with dismay how Ali became the main albatross of the service as he relegated professional ethics to the background adding that the welfare of the officers under him was similarly bastardized making workers objects of pity.
