An Activist and resident of Mubi town, Baba Ibrahim has berated the Adamawa Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) for it reply to Muslims Council allegations against Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the newly confirmed substantive Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi.
Ibrahim said that the action by YOWICAN portrayed it as emotional and petty in its approach to such issue.
“The allegation of marginalization was made by Muslims Council against the VC, and we expect her to be bold enough to reply to it instead of YOWICAN whose position here is more of a self-appointed mercenary.
“Similar allegations by Christians were made against a former VC Alkassum Abba, but instead of Muslim groups raising up to his defence, he personally defended himself before the press on employment made by his administration and why he excluded some local governments from benefiting from the employment.
“In fact, Federal Character Commission had to vet the employment to ensure fairness and equity to all the 21 local government areas of Adamawa responsible for funding the institution,” Ibrahim said.
He pointed out that the defence by YOWICAN attacking the personality of Muslims Council Chairman and citing cases in MAUTECH, FCE and College of Legal Studies is irrelevant as YOWICAN or anyone else is also free to write it protest letter to the affected institutions.
“To me, Muslims Council is magnanimous to the VC by not raising the issue when she was contesting the position of substantive VC but waited for her emergence to congratulate her and point out to her it grievances against her with advice to guard against such during her tenure as substantive VC.
“CAN, is today well known for not hesitating in criticizing any action by Federal and any state government that it feels marginalized Christians. One then wonder why YOWICAN being and appendage of CAN should be scrambling to attack Muslims Council for doing same for perceived marginalisation of Muslims.
“YOWICAN will do better by advising the VC to correct the anomalies if they are true or debunked them with facts if they are wrong,” Ibrahim said.
