Maiduguri Flour Mill Lauds NEDC Support

The Maiduguri Flour Mill has lauded the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its support and commitment to support ailing businesses affected by the insurgency in North East.

The Chairman Board Management of the flour mill, Alhaji Hamza Saidu made the commendation during a meeting of the board with management of NEDC.

Saidu who narrated the history of the company founded in 1983 under joint venture said at it peak it has the capacity of 400 metric tonnes of per day and used to produced the best fertilizer in the country before things deteriorated and further worsened by the insurgency and COVID-19.

Saidu said the current management of the flour mill was able to reactivate talks with Nigeria Flour mill with the support of NEDC to improve production with the commitment to restore its lost glory.

In his remarks,  the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali said the commitment to support ailing businesses was part of NEDC objective in patronising local industries in the affected areas.

Alkali said the commission decided to take the flour mill as a pilot project by awarding it the production of 10,000 bags of grits.

In his remarks,  the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sani Gwarzo lauded the gesture which he said was  a well thought intervention and inline  with the Buhari administration to patronise local contents.

Gwarzo said the ministry would support such its initiative through its programme like the school feeding programme.

Also commenting, the Senate Committee Chairman on Special Duty, Yusuf Abubakar said it was a welcome development that should be supported.
