The Borno State Flood Relief Distribution Committee has commenced ward to ward verification of flood victims for support in Maiduguri metropolis.
The exercise going on in Abubakar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi Primary School is for over 7,000 victims affected in Limanti Ward.
The exercise is coming after that of Gwange ward where Gov. Babagana Zulum flags-off the distribution of support to over 5,000 victims a few days ago.
According to the Chairman of the committee, Engr. Baba-Bukar Gujibawa , the ward to ward exercise was to ensure that no victim was left behind.
“As part of the process, the names of those impacted have been publicly displayed at the district head’s palace for verification and feedback.
“Similarly, a complaint desk has also been established on-site to address any concerns or omissions raised by the affected households.
“Today, we see the community of Limanti turning out in large numbers as early as 7 am. We will meticulously follow the process to ensure that no one is left behind,” Gujibawu assured.
Meanwhile, as the flood water drastically reduced, the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board has warned the public whose structures are destroyed in settlements along the river banks not to engage in any reconstruction work.
“No any form of development/renovation is allowed in order to protect future flooding of Maiduguri and its environs,” the General Manager of the board, Alhaji Liman Mustapha said.
He listed settlements affected by the directive to include Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, Sabon Gari, Bulabulin, Sakwari, Khaddamar, and those behind Chad Basin and Forestry Quarters.
