Kidnappers of Mujeli Ahidjo, the DPO of Mubi North local government of Adamawa State who was kidnapped last week have threatened to kill him if the sum of N20 million is not paid as ransom.
In a viral audio clip in Hausa language, at the disposal of this medium, a man assumed to be the kidnappers’ kingpin was heard threatening the negotiator that if the relatives of the kidnapped DPO failed to deliver the ransom on Thursday, the abductors would have no alternative other than to kill the abducted DPO.
It could be recalled that the divisional police officer was kidnapped on Wednesday, November 26 around 6.30 pm along Mubi-Maraba road by unknown gunmen.
In the audio clip, the negotiator was heard strenuously begging the kidnapper for additional time for friends to realise the ransom demanded.
The kidnapper then asked the negotiator whether he was with the area commander but the negotiator told him he was alone.
“I’m just coming from the bathroom. We are seriously mobilizing for funds,” the negotiator said.
When the kidnapper asked how much was realized, the negotiator said he was not aware of the amount the other side has mobilized so far noting that on their part, the sum of N500,000 have been realized.
“From my side and that of traders, we have realised the sum of N500,000…”
Apparently angered by the low amount so far realized, the kidnapper interjected the negotiator and warned him that he was not out for a joke.
“I must tell you that we are right now holding two people including the DPO. The two other people will be released on Thursday. If you fail to pay the ransom of the DPO, we shall surely kill him,” the kidnapper said.
To make his threat more pronounced, the kidnapper told the negotiator that a day before, they launched an attack in the eastern part of Mubi town leading to the death of some policemen.
Two policemen killed and seven locals were kidnapped following an attack by some suspected gunmen on a police convoy and some commuters vehicle along Gyella road, in Mubi south local government of Adamawa state last Monday.
“I hope you are aware that tomorrow is Thursday, I will release two people whose ransom will be paid. I swear if you didn’t bring the money, I will personally execute the DPO.
“I will ensure killing him on Thursday so that he did not benefit from the prospect of dying on a holy day like Friday.
“I will assure you if N5 is missing from the N20 million ransom demand, you will only come to collect his dead body if you are lucky, otherwise you may not even see the dead body.
“Look for Aliyu his brother and whatever you discussed let me know,” the kidnapper directed with a final note.
The kidnappers had earlier gave an ultimatum for the family to produce N20 million ransom or risk the death of their brother.
“They have actually given us up till Thursday to produce N20 million otherwise they will kill the DPO.
“We are still making efforts to see that we meet up with the requested ransom,” the family source disclosed.
When contacted, police public relation officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje said they are not aware of the development saying that the police are making efforts to rescue the DPO and arrest the kidnappers.
“I didn’t know anything about the ransom, the command has deployed operation Farauta/Puff Adder to checkmate the activities of the criminals and dislodge them from their hideouts and rescue him,” he said.
It’s not yet clear whether the abducted DPO is killed or not as at the time of filing this report.
