The Kapwa Wholeness Foundation based in Numan town of Adamawa state has succeeded in transforming the lives of more than 25 drug users in Numan LGA.
The Managing Director of the Foundation, Dr Eunice Mosu, made this known Saturday in Numan town, during the flag-off of a youth empowerment programme organized by the foundation with support from General Board of Church and Society (GBCS-UMC)
“Our goal was to transform just one person in the whole of Numan federation, but today as an organization we have succeeded in transforming the lives of more than 25 drug users'” Mosu said.
Mosu said the foundation which started a year ago was working directly with grassroots youths by focusing more on reaching out to those battling with addiction.
Mosu who noted the urgent need to curb poverty, cultism, and drug abuse in the society said the menace was responsible for thriving criminalities such as terrorism, kidnapping and arm banditry.
“Therefore, whether we like it or not we are all affected either directly or indirectly by these criminalities.
“So all hands most be on deck to combat these social vices to make our society a better, peaceful and secure environment for all,” Mosu said.
While commending the Adamawa Command of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Numan community for their support for the successes recorded by the foundation, the Managing Director urged philanthropists and NGOs with like minds to contribute their quota in complementing government effort.
“We urged institutions and agencies of government to invest in sensitization, advocacy and empowerment programmes at the grassroots to make Nigeria great,” Mosu said.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commandant of NDLEA in Adamawa, Mr Yakubu Kibo, who lauded the foundation for it contribution in the fight against drugs assured it of sustain support from the agency.
Kibo who noted the role of hard drugs in violent crimes said if drugs abused is properly managed the rate of crimes like would drastically reduced.
“Almost all the criminals do what they are doing under the influence of drugs; in facts, youths into drugs are always associated with crime,” Kibo said.
Highlight of the occasion is a street rally in Numan major streets to enlighten the public on dangers of hard drugs.
