KACRAN leadership has raised concern over alleged unauthorised destruction of cattle route in Potiskum LGA of Yobe State.
The association raised the concern in a letter to Potiskum Local Government Chairman.
The letter signed by the National President of KACRAN, Hon Khalil Mohd Bello, was attached with pictures of the affected route.
“I am writing on behalf of the members of KACRAN residing in Juma’a Village, Potiskum Local Government Area, as well as the broader community, to express our profound distress regarding the unauthorized destruction of a crucial cattle route in the area.
“We have learned, with dismay, that this vital passage, which has served as an international cattle route for over a century, is being illegally obstructed and parceled out as plots in direct defiance of His Excellency, Governor Hon Mai Mala Buni’s executive orders. These directives expressly commanded all Local Government Council Chairmen to establish committees aimed at fostering peace between farmers and herders, and safeguarding grazing reserves and cattle routes from encroachment.
“Regrettably, it appears that the Village Head of Juma’a, Alh Yusufu Baba, with the alleged backing of the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, has taken actions that contravene these orders. The admission by the Village Head during an interview with the press, and the subsequent inaction by the Local Government, has led to further destruction and allocation of the cattle route for personal gain.
“This cattle route is not only a historical pathway for herders from Cameroon through Nigeria to Niger but also a critical component in preventing conflicts between farmers and herders. The unauthorized allocation of this land jeopardizes the livelihoods of thousands of pastoralists and poses a significant threat to the longstanding peace and security of the region.
“We are therefore making a passionate appeal to your office and your renowned commitment to peace and unity, to intervene swiftly. We urge you to halt these illegal activities, revoke any illicitly allocated plots, and uphold the directives of His Excellency by protecting this vital cattle route.
“We trust that under your leadership, swift action will be taken to resolve this matter, thereby reinforcing the government’s commitment to fairness, justice, and the prevention of avoidable conflicts.
“We look forward to your prompt and positive response,” the letter concluded.
