The British Council under its Managing Conflict in Nigeria (MCN) programme funded by European Union (EU) has trained 200 community leaders in Borno on reintegration.
The training is to complement the ongoing peace building and resettlement of displaced communities affected by insurgency back to their ancestral home by the Borno Government.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the community leaders in Maiduguri on Thursday, the Deputy Team Lead of MCN programme in Borno, Mr Hayatudeen Adam said the training would help in terms of building the capacity of the trainees in trauma counselling and empowerment by facilitating a more smoother intervention programmes.
Adam also noted that the training provided community leaders the skills to facilitate the reintegration of people, particularly youth and women involved in the arm conflict.
In her remarks, the Borno Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mrs Jummai Mshelia, lauded the training programme and urged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the skills gained to enhance the reintegration process.
Mshelia urged victims of the insurgency to imbibe the culture of forgiveness as preach by the holy books as they returned to thier communities to start afresh.
Speaking on behalf of EU, Mr Khabiru Abbas, urged for the involvement of all groups in the reintegration process so that no one would be left behind.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of certificate to the graduates.
