The NEDC delegation being received at the hospital by the Medical Director on arrival
A delegation from the North East Development Commission (NEDC) led by the Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed Alkali Goni, has on Tuesday visited the Specialist Hospital Maiduguri to sympathized with victims of Saturday multiple suicide bombings in Gwoza town of Borno State that claimed many lives.
The team was received by the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Shehu Mohammed who conducted it round to interact with some of the victims responding to treatment.
Speaking to newsmen after going round, Alkali, who condemned the attacks, said the commission was in talks with the Borno Government and other stakeholders on a comprehensive way to respond to the situation.
“I am sure the state government is going to have a committee and we will be part of the committee to see ways we are going to assist as a commission that has been impacting in various sectors,” Alkali said.
Also speaking to newsmen, the medical director said that 15 patients out of the 49 injured victims brought to the hospital have been treated and discharged.
He said that so far only two victims died, while the remaining were responding to treatment.
According to him, the hospital has enough blood in its blood bank to cater for the patients.
“So far, we don’t have many challenges. What we need for now are specialized volunteers like doctors, nurses, paramedics and cleaners as well as security to control the crowd of relatives trooping in,” the medical director said.
