Gov. Zulum Lauds Civil Defence Role In Maintaining Civil Authority

Gov. Babagana Zulum has commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for its sustain role in establishing and maintaining civil authority in recovered areas of the state.

Zulum made the commendation on Monday in Maiduguri during the Ground Breaking ceremony for the construction of NSCDC state headquarters in Maiduguri.

Zulum lauded the Commandant General of the corps for establishing a befitting headquarters for the command at this critical stage of reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement in Borno pointing out that the development would make the corps better and well poised to deliver.

“Today’s occassion is therefore a pointer to such good efforts and your tireless endeavour at establishing civil authority in the recovered local government areas that should be sustain.

“In view of this, I wish to assure you that we are ever ready to work with you and give you all necessary impetus within our limited resources to strengthen and empower the state command for better service delivery..

“I therefore call on Federal Government to provide the Corps with state of the art communication devices, arms and logistics to facilitate it effectiveness in combatting crime.

“May we appeal to the Corps to consider our situation in Borno and give us special concession in the current recruitment exercise as this shall go a long way in our fight against the insurgency,” Zulum said.

In his speech, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Alhaji Abdullahi Gana, thanked Borno Government for providing land at strategic location for the office and assured it of the Corps sustained commitment to restoration of peace and security in Borno.

Gana said that Borno has been dear to him because of the way the government had been supporting the state command, adding that he alway make sure he deployed competent hands to the state.

He explained that the office complex expected to be completed in six months would alleviate the problem of accomodation facing the Corps and furgher boost the morale of its officers and men in Borno.

“As Commandant General of NSCDC, I want to use this opportunity to assure government and people of Borno State nd North East in general that NSCDC is committed to restoration of peace and security in the zone and will leave no stone unturned in our quest to achieving that,” Gana said.

In his remarks, the Borno State Commandant of NSCDC, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi lauded the support to Borno Command by the headquarters, pointing out that the state was also made a special centre for promotion examination with more of its officer and men benefitting from the gesture.

Also in his remarks, the Project Engineer for the headquarters project, Japhia Samson, said the project to be completed in six months would create direct and indirect jobs for 3,000 residents of Maiduguri.
