In order to rein on Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Sexual and Gender Based Violence, (SGBV), harmful practices and entrench gender equitable norms in Adamawa State, the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development has commenced active sensitization for men in Adamawa State.
The foundation which is being supported by EU-UN spotlight initiative project has already commenced series of town hall engagements in Mubi North local government of the state to ensure men are adequately sensitized.
According the coordinator of the project, Amina Ali, the town hall provides an avenue for exchange of ideas and a fertile ground for identifying factors that influence violence against women and girls as well as proffer solutions that are applicable in the context of the community.
She said the participants were also sensitized on the application of relevant laws especially the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law which specifically addresses all forms of violence against persons in the state.
One of the facilitators Mr Nor Barnabas who happen to be a member of the platform, Valla 1, a platform earlier set up by Sultan Foundation at the beginning of the spotlight initiative project in the state, commended the foundation for organising the town hall meeting.
She noted that engaging and re-engaging the community will go along way in addressing the issues of gender norms and VAWG.
