The National Union of Adamawa State Students Union, has conducted a unity convention to elect new executives to mount the activities of the union.
Speaking to newsmen, Chairman of the unity convention, Comrade Saidu Mohammad, said the convention has taken place as a result of unity between the warring groups of the students leadership of the union.
“Before now we have parallel government where we can see students claiming to be the leaders and others claiming too”.
He said despite the recent unity of students and the free and fair conduct of the election, some students whom are non indigenes tried to disrupt the election but prevented by security.
Comrade Mohammad, expects that the new executives would address the challenges being faced by students particularly non payment of scholarship by the state government, seeking assistance to those students that were affected by insurgency and are now handicap as well as establishment of the local chapters of the union in some institutions in the state.
The position of President and Director of health were contested while other positions remain unopposed.
Gaddafi Hussaini of Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola emerged as the new President for the union after defeating Andesam Paslam of the Adamawa state University.
The new executives would not be inaugurated two petitions were hurriedly filed before the convention committee which has two days to submit its report before the inauguration.
