Flood: Zulum approves Time extension for Relief Disbursement Committee

Gov Zulum and his Deputy, Kadafur

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has approved four-week extension for the State Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee to continue its work in providing relief to flood victims in the state.

The approval was announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bukar Tijani, on Thursday  in Maiduguri.

Tijani said that the committee was initially set to conclude its disbursement efforts this week, but the extension was granted by Zulum to ensure a thorough assessment of the victims with all the affected individuals given relief.

He explained that the governor has reviewed the interim report submitted by the disbursement committee and, in light of the progress made so far, directed that the committee’s mandate be extended for an additional four weeks.

“This will allow for the completion of the disbursement process and ensure that no victim is left behind.

“The committee has made considerable progress in line with its terms of reference, but further time is needed to fully assess and reach all the victims of the disaster,” Tijani said.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensuring that adequate support is provided to those affected by the floods.

The relief efforts are part of broader initiatives by the Borno government to support flood victims and help rebuild communities affected by the September 10 flood disaster.

The devastating flood led to significant loss of lives, destruction of property, livelihoods, particularly in Maiduguri and surrounding local government areas.
