The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has released 200,000 bags of rice for victims of flood in North East states.
The states comprised Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba.
The Managing Director of the NEDC, Mr Mohammed Alkali, made this known in Maiduguri while presenting the grain and other items.
Alkali said that other items included 150,000 cartons of macaroni/spaghetti, 250,000 gallons of vegetable oil, mats, blankets, mosquito nets, clothing materials and children’s clothes.
He said all members of National Assembly, State Assemblies in the zone would participate in handling of the items in their constituencies to ensure it reached genuine beneficiaries.
Alkali, who just concluded a tour of some states affected by flood, said the support was part of immediate measures taken by the commission which has short term and long term plans for the region.
According to him, due to the current massive flooding in Maiduguri caused by the breakdown of Alau Dam, the commission has released some allocation of food and non food items for the victims.
