Emir Of Uba Assures Support To ACReSAL Project In His Domain

The Emir of Uba in Askira/Uba LGA of Borno State, Alhaji Ali Ismailia Mamza, has assured maximum support towards successful implementation of ACReSAL project in his domain.

Borno ACReSAL, said the royal father gave the assurance while receiving the ACReSAL team and collaboration partner who visited his palace in Uba.

“His Royal Highness, the Emir of Uba in Askira/Uba LG Alhaji Ali Ismaila Mamza has assured to support ACReSAL project in it activities towards tackling environmental challenges in Northern Nigeria.

“The Royal Father disclosed this when he received the Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) team in collaboration with its FONGO implementation partner, Global Environmental Responds Initative (GERI), who paid him a visit in his palace.

“The Emir applauded the present administration of Governor of Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum mni, FNSE for several developmental projects executed in the area which have direct bearing on the people,” the statement added.

It said that the traditional ruler who spoke on havoc caused by erosion in Uba town, urged for support in addressing the problem.

The Executive Director of Global Environmental Responds Initiative, Dr Ngare Dogo, who is the FONGO consultant, said Uba is among LGAs to benefit in areas of drainage and woodlot plantation to mitigate the effect of climate change.

Dogo also announced the inauguration of the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) members that would serve as implementation partners of ACReSAL in the community.

In his goodwill message, the Representative of the Project Coordinator, Engineer Babagana Ladan, said Uba civil works which could not be implemented under NEWMWP due to paucity of funds and time factor, has been approved in the ACReSAL Work plan for implementation since it falls under land degradation challenges.

He added that the safeguards studies conducted under NEWMAP (RAP and ESMP) and the Bill for Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) were now being updated, adding that as soon as they are cleared, work would start in earnest.

He tasked the committee members to work closely with the people in the LGA and the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) for smooth implementation of the project.

In his vontributing, the Monitoring and Evaluation officer, Mr Bukar Madu Goba, congratulated the new members of the LGPMC and urged them to cooperate and collaborate with the staff of the SPMU in order to achieve the desired objectives of the project in the area.

Goba said that that the LGPMC would serve as the first contact to address many issues such as Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) and conflicts resolution to contain Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the implementation of ACReSAL activities.

He said the responsibilities placed on them are tasking and needed to be discharge diligently.

Inaugurating the committee, the Transitional Council Chairman of Askira/Uba LG, Ahmed Ahidjo Abdullahi represented by the Vice Chairman, Dauda Bukar Askira, thanked ACReSAL team for the visit and assured them of support.

He charged the committee to work as a team towards overall development of the project.

Highlights of the occasion were cultural dance, ACReSAL promotional songs and drama presentation to effectively pass the sensitization messages to the people of the area.
