No fewer that 1,600 Corps Members are engaged as ad-hoc staff by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the general election in Borno.
The Borno State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mohammed Adamu made this known on Thursday in an interview in Maiduguri.
Adamu said those engaged had been sensitized on election duties, while officials from NYSC headquarters in Abuja also arrived to briefed them on thier roles in the election and electoral offences.
“We have made it clear to them that wearing the NYSC uniform is not an immunity for any electoral offences and I think the message has gone down well with them.
“We also plead with them to take thier security first,” Adamu said.
The coordinator also appealed to communities where the corpers are deployed for the election to cooperate and support them towards a successful exercise.
“I also want to appeal to politicians to support the corps members who are non partisan and are there to carry out a national function towards ensuring a smooth election,” Adamu said.
