The Borno State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a statewide special patrol operation ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to ensure safer highways and hitch-free movement during the festive period.
The operation, scheduled to run up to May 30 aims to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries associated with increased vehicular movement during the Sallah celebrations.
The Sector Commander, Usman A. Muhammad, said the special patrol will focus on traffic management, prompt rescue response, removal of road obstructions, and public enlightenment campaigns across major highways in the state.
According to him, a total of 575 Regular Marshals and 120 Special Marshals have been deployed statewide for the exercise.
“The operation will also be supported with 18 operational vehicles, including ambulances, patrol vans, a heavy-duty tow truck, motorbikes, and other safety gadgets.”
Mohammad said that enforcement during the operation would target offences such as excessive speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, overloading, and route violations.
“The Head of Operations, Deputy Corps Commander Kabir B. Bello, will coordinate the exercise, while Chief Route Commander BS Kukawa will supervise the field deployment of personnel across the state.”
Mohammad urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with traffic officials and comply with road safety regulations to ensure peaceful and safe travels during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
He also advised members of the public to use emergency toll-free lines 112 and 122, as well as FRSC emergency numbers, in case of distress or accidents.
