‎Discontent in Adamawa PDP temporary, we’re marching to 2027 stronger – Dogo

‎The Public Relations Officer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Mr. Victor Dogo, has dismissed speculations that recent defections of prominent members signal a crisis within the party, describing them instead as “temporary distractions” that will soon be resolved through reconciliation and dialogue.

‎Speaking a session with newsmen in Yola, on Monday, Dogo said the party’s recent congress was conducted in a transparent manner, contrary to reports of discontent.

‎He described the Congress as a “family affair” that brought all stakeholders together, acknowledging that, as in any political process, some grievances were inevitable.

‎“It’s natural to have aggrieved members after such exercises. But as a family, the PDP has already set up mechanisms to reach out to everyone. The governor instructed that we engage them immediately not to revisit the outcomes, but to remind them why they belong in this political family,” he said.

‎Dogo explained that a special in-house committee has been set up to mediate and heal internal rifts, with the newly inaugurated Executive Council (EXCO) at the forefront of this reconciliation drive. “We are not going into 2027 divided. We are going as one team,” he assured.

‎Reacting to the recent wave of defections, including that of some high-profile members, Dogo insisted that the movement was exaggerated by the opposition.

‎ “The defections are not driven by genuine grievances but by external influence. It’s a political strategy by the opposition to create an illusion of crisis,” he noted.

‎He particularly addressed the defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others, describing their exits as “temporary.”

‎“Politics is dynamic. Even a prodigal son remains a member of his father’s household. They’ll return home. PDP is their family, and there’s nothing as fulfilling as being at home,” Dogo said.

‎He argued that the defections lack real political weight, saying none of the departing figures took a substantial following with them. “It’s not about the caliber of who moves; it’s about the movement behind them. If there was a real movement, we would have seen masses leaving with them. PDP remains strong at the grassroots,” he maintained.

‎Addressing insinuations that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri manipulated the congress, Dogo dismissed them as baseless.

‎“The congresses were open, transparent, and well-documented. Politics naturally breeds different opinions, but we are not retaliating with insults. We are reaching out to reconcile and rebuild trust,” he said.

‎Dogo further stated that the PDP remains the most organized opposition in Nigeria despite attempts by the ruling APC to dominate the political landscape.

‎“What we’re witnessing nationally is an attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party system, but PDP stands firm as a credible opposition with the second-largest base of governors and lawmakers in the country,” he emphasized.

‎He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Fintiri to inclusive governance and strategic reconciliation ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎ “Governor Fintiri believes in friendship and dialogue. People may leave, but friendship brings them back. Our goal now is unity, not division,” he added.

‎Dogo expressed optimism that all aggrieved members no matter their rank would return to the PDP fold before the next election cycle, adding: “PDP is not just a political party; it’s a family, and every true family finds its way back home.”
