‎Dan Maje Adamawa decries alleged plans to impose candidates ahead of APC congresses

‎A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Ahmadu Hamman Nasara, the traditional title holder of Dan Maje Adamawa, has raised concerns over what he described as moves by some influential figures within the party to impose candidates during the forthcoming congresses.

‎Nasara warned that such actions could undermine the democratic principles upon which the party is founded and weaken the confidence of party members and supporters.

‎Speaking on the issue, the APC stalwart alleged that certain “retrogressive elements” within the party were working behind the scenes to anoint the current state chairman of the APC in Adamawa, Barrister Shuaibu Idris as the next National Vice Chairman of the party for the North-East.

‎According to him, attempts to impose candidates rather than allowing party members to freely choose their leaders would erode trust in the party’s internal democratic system.

‎Nasara expressed concern that if the alleged plan succeeds, it could damage the credibility of the party and discourage loyal members who believe in fairness and due process.

‎He emphasized that internal democracy remains the bedrock of any thriving political party, noting that APC must continue to set a positive example by ensuring that leadership positions are contested openly and fairly.

‎The politician further warned that the imposition of candidates could create unnecessary divisions within the party, particularly at a time when unity is required to consolidate the party’s strength ahead of future electoral contests.

‎Nasara therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a just and democratic leader, to ensure that the forthcoming congresses are conducted in a manner that reflects transparency, fairness and respect for party rules.

‎He urged the President and the national leadership of the party to safeguard the integrity of the congress process by guaranteeing a level playing field for all aspirants.

‎According to him, credible primaries will not only enhance the legitimacy of those who eventually emerge as leaders but will also strengthen the party’s democratic culture.

‎Nasara added that the APC has built its reputation on the principles of justice, fairness and accountability, stressing that maintaining those values is crucial to the confidence of its members and the wider Nigerian public.

‎He appealed to party stakeholders to put the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions in order to preserve unity and promote democratic ideals within the APC.
