Counter Insurgency: Chadian Defence Minister Lauds MNJTF

The Chadian Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Daoud Yaya, has expressed appreciation with the commitment of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in ending terrorism and activities of insurgents in the Lake Chad Basin Region.

A statement by the spokesman of the MNJTF,  Lt. Col. Kamarudeen Adegoke, said the minister made the commendation on Friday in N’Djamena while receiving the Force Commander (FC) of MNJTF, Brig. Gen. G.U Chibuisi, who paid him a courtesy call.

Chibuisi was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Force Commander, Brig. Gen. Assoualai Blama and other senior officers of the MNJTF.

“The visit formed part of the FC’s efforts at wide consultations with strategic partners and stakeholders of the MNJTF towards achieving the mandate of MNJTF.

“The FC was given a brief after which he expressed his appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage. He stated that he was impressed with the conductive atmosphere prevailing in N’Djamena which has made it possible for the MNJTF to operate without any hitches.

“He assured the Minister of MNJTF’s commitment to strengthening the existing collaboration between it and the Chadian authorities,” the statement added.

In his response, Gen. Yaya congratulated the FC on his appointment and commended him for engaging in wide consultations with the key leaders and military commanders.

While assuring the MNJTF of full support, Yaya urged the FC to sustain the tempo in the ongoing onslaught against the insurgents.

In a similar development according to the statement, the FC also  visited the Chadian Chief of Air Staff, Brig.Gen. Amine Ahmed Idriss, at the Chadian Airforce Base in N’Djamena to boost collaboration.

“The FC was received on arrival by the Chief of Air Staff and was later given a brief on the activities of the Chadian Air Force.

“In his remarks, the FC thanked the Chadian Air Force Chief for its support to MNJTF towards achieving its mandate. He stressed the need for effective synergy between the MNJTF and other relevant establishments in order to jointly tackle the insecurity in the Lake Chad Basin region.

“Gen Chibuisi further stated that the much needed cooperation is crucial in the fight against BH/ISWAP Terrorists. According to him ‘Terrorism and Insurgency has no boundaries’.

“There is therefore the need to collectively deal with the issues of BH/ISWAP Terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin region’. He added that the supporting role of Air assets of the Chadian Air Force as well as other arsenal of weapons by the Troops Contributing Countries  remain critical to MNJTF activities especially during operations.

“In his response, General Idriss assured the FC of the continuous support of the Chadian Air Force noting that the existing relationship will be built upon to achieve the needed success in the fight against the BH/ISWAP Terrorists,” the statement added.
